“Can someone please help me choose a good bottle of wine?”
How many times have you walked into a store needing a bottle of wine, only to be overwhelmed by the hundreds of bottles in front of you? After a few minutes, we all know what you do: You find a nice label, and hope for the best.
Here at Northwest Wine Night, we can relate. We’re not wine experts: We just love introducing you to good, locally produced wine.
That’s really what’s behind the concept of this project. We love drinking wine, and we want to try locally made wines. The problem isn’t finding them, as there are well over 1200 wineries and vineyards just in Washington and Oregon. The real challenge is knowing enough about them to want to try them. Better yet, knowing enough about them so that next trip to the wine aisle isn’t as intimidating!
Northwest Wine Night: How It Works
On each episode of Northwest Wine Night, our guest panel (from local tv, radio, sports teams, and government) tastes wines from all over the Pacific Northwest, and then talk about them. Since all palates are different, our panelists are asked to focus on the things they like about each wine, arming you, the viewer, with some good information you can use next time you go to select your next bottle of wine.
On each episode, we taste two reds of the same variety, and two whites of the same variety. Once they’ve been tasted, the panelists give a score of 1-10. Up to this point, our panel only knows the wine by their taste buds: This is a blind tasting. Once the wines are scored, we reveal the brands and cost.
The idea is to introduce you to a handful of good wines, and offer feedback without any technical terms or snobby attitudes. You may ask “Why score the wines?” We want you to support the local winemakers and try all the wines, and our panel’s score is simply meant as a guide to help you decide the wine you’d like to try first!
Move Over Match.com
We’re not here to sell wine. Instead, think of us as a matchmaking service. It’s our mission to introduce you to the great wines of the Pacific Northwest.
We’re real people you’ve heard of tasting good wine, helping promote the growing industry here in the Pacific Northwest. Cheers!
