Just a couple of weeks ago, we had a candid conversation with Master of Wine Bob Betz about where the local wine industry has been, and where it should be heading. Bob is the founder of Betz Family Winery, and has worked as a vintner for decades, most notably with the Chateau Ste. Michelle group.

We were actually visiting Bob on a bottling day, so being the nice guy he is, he invited us to stick around and observe the process. In this second installment of “NWWN In Depth,” Bob narrates as you watch the entire bottling process from barrel to bottle to box.

Through a very interesting process, this is your first-hand look at how the wine gets into the bottle, and the painstaking efforts made to ensure top quality until you pop the cork.

Special thanks to Bob Betz for his time and friendship to all who enjoy Washington Wine.

In our second installment of “NWWN In Depth,” we had a chance to sit down with the brand new executive director of the Washington State Wine Commission. Steve Warner, a Washington native, is back home, leading the efforts to market Washington wines throughout the Pacific Northwest, and the world. He’s a very personable guy who had big plans for the industry, and in this interview, he talks specifically about what he wants to happen, and the economic potential of wines made right here!

Northwest Wine Night host Brian Calvert spent a few minutes with Steve in his office. The two met literally just days after Steve accepted the job, and since, Steve is a self-admitted fan of Northwest Wine Night. It’s great to have his support for the show, and we plan to get him on a future episode as part of the tasting panel.

In our first installment of “NWWN In Depth,” we score an interview with one of Washington Wines’ leading men. Master of Wine Bob Betz has helped promote and grow the industry for decades. He knows his wine, yet is warm and friendly to those just learning about vino.

Northwest Wine Night host Brian Calvert spent a few minutes with Bob during a recent bottling day at Betz Family Winery. Bob talked about the beginning of the wine industry in Washington, how far it’s come, and it’s challenges ahead. This is a really interesting lesson told by one of the vintners who helped put Washington on the map as a serious player when it comes to wine!

Please share with your friends curious about the history of wine in Washington, as well as those who want to meet one of the nicest guys making Washington wine, Bob Betz.

Bob will be back again next week, with a fascinating look behind the scenes during the bottling process. From empty bottles to finished masterpieces, Bob will narrate the process as you watch it happen.

And keep watching for more interesting conversations about wine in the coming weeks here in our special section “NWWN In Depth.”
